An Accra Gender-Based Circuit Court yesterday slapped a young driver with a 15-year jail term for defiling a five-year-old girl.
The convict, Richard Okyere, 22, committed the act when he lured the victim into his kiosk at Ogbojo Dzanayoro in Accra.
Although
Okyere had vehemently denied the charge of defilement, the court,
presided over by Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, found him guilty.
The trial judge accordingly handed Richard the sentence to serve as a deterrent to others.
At
the beginning of the trial, the prosecutor, Detective Inspector Kofi
Atimbiri, said the complainant, Mary Adzadza, is a Zoomlion worker
resident in Accra with her family and the victim.
He said the convict aka Bro Kwame, is a driver who lived in a kiosk in the same vicinity with the complainant.
D/Insp.
Atimbiri stated that on June 8, 2014, while the complainant was bathing
the victim, she (victim) started crying and screaming whenever her
hands got closer to the genitals of the victim.
The complainant,
the prosecutor averred, who became suspicious, questioned the victim and
she mentioned the convict as the one who had an affair with her in his
kiosk.
The case was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Bro Kwame. |
